Rules & Regulations

Welcome to Emsfors (ESFK) on the lower Emån. The fishery covers both banks of the Emån from upstream of Hälleforshult down to below the road bridge after Stora Höljan at Emsfors. Each angler is responsible for verifying the ESFK boundaries and current closed-off zones around the power plants on site.
Children up to 12 fish free of charge, but only in the company of an adult who holds a valid permit — they count on the adult's quota.

Permit

  • One permit per angler, per rod, per day.
  • A permit can be bought for at most 3 consecutive days.
  • The permit is personal and may not be transferred or resold.

Methods and gear

  • Hand-cast fishing only (one rod per angler).
  • Maximum one treble-hook rig, and only barbless hooks.
  • Strict catch & release applies — handle fish gently and keep them in the water during hook removal.
  • Natural bait is forbidden when targeting salmon or sea trout.
  • Live bait is allowed for pike; bread / grain may be used for other species.
  • Bottom fishing and float fishing are allowed if they do not obstruct other anglers.

Wild vs farmed salmonids

All wild sea trout and salmon must be released back into the Emån. Fin-clipped (farmed) fish must be kept — they may not be released.

Bag limits and sizes

  • Max 2 salmon / sea trout above the minimum size (50 cm) per angler and day. All fishing must stop once the quota is reached.
  • All catches of catfish (mal) and eel (ål) are forbidden — both must be released.

Catch reporting

Every salmon and sea trout must unconditionally be reported, with species, length, date and catch location.

Biosecurity — Gyrodactylus salaris

All gear must be thoroughly disinfected before use due to the presence of the parasite Gyrodactylus salaris in the water system.

Conduct

  • Do not enter private or industrial property to access the water.
  • Observe basic angling etiquette — ask before fishing in front of others.

Boat motors

Only electric boat motors are allowed. Combustion engines are forbidden.
