Öreälven is a forest river in Västerbotten, northern Sweden. It is best known for large sea trout. Salmon is also present, and grayling fishing is good on selected stretches.

The river has both faster salmonid water and slower sections. Rapids and stronger runs are the main water for sea trout, salmon and grayling. Slower, calmer sections can hold pike and burbot. The upper river also has stationary trout.

Öreälvens FVO lists the fishing season from 1 May to 15 September, with catch and release from 1 May to 20 May. Early May can still be affected by spring flood and coloured water.

Season and key rules

Öreälvens FVO lists fishing from 1 May to 15 September. The opening period from 1 May to 20 May is catch-and-release.

The listed season ends on 15 September. Do not plan late autumn sea-trout fishing unless the current FVO rules show a later open period.

Fishing often becomes more realistic a few weeks into May, once spring-flood colour has cleared.

River character and timing

Öreälven is a forest river with faster runs, rapids and calmer-flowing sections.

Sea trout is the main species to plan around. Salmon is also present. Grayling fishing is described as very good on some stretches, but not as a river-wide guarantee.

Slower water changes the target species. In calmer sections, pike and burbot become more relevant. The upper river can also hold stationary trout.

Fisheries, stretches and permits

Öreälvens FVO is the main river fishery. Current permits and rules are handled through Öreälvens FVO / Laxportalen.

Avoid old length figures or older permit descriptions unless they are confirmed on the current FVO page.
